Meet the Centuria Life team - Dani Dy

Dani Dy is a Distribution Manager based in Brisbane and the newest edition to the Centuria Life team. Discover Dani’s take on education bonds, what inspires her and her passion for working with financial advisers.

1. What inspired you to pursue your current career path?

I’ve worked in financial services since I finished high school, wanting practical experience to better understand what I was studying at university. I began working in financial planning firms before moving into the product distribution space.

What inspired me to stay in distribution is the connection piece, getting to know and understand advisers, their businesses, and the clients they serve. It’s incredibly fulfilling, especially when I can show them something new or provide a fresh perspective that adds real value.

2. If there’s one thing you’d want every adviser to know about education bonds, what would it be?

Education bonds are a multigenerational support structure and whilst they are primarily focused on meeting future education costs, they can do a lot more. They can also support clients’ wealth transfer goals, be a protected asset from creditors and relationship break downs, complement existing superannuation strategies and can be a flexible tax effective vehicle for accumulators through to retirees. The application of the bond is much broader than they realise.

3. Can you share a career highlight or memorable time?

Biggest career highlight would be taking out BDM of the Year at the Newswire Fund Manager Awards. I had not yet officially joined Centuria but was so appreciative of Michael Blake and Ben Harrop being there to support me on the night.

4. What’s something you’ve been reading or learning about lately that’s grabbed your attention?

I’m really into a podcast called Armchair Expert. Every week features a different guest, from celebrities to different experts in their  field, and I love hearing perspectives outside my own thought bubble.

5. Who inspires you professionally or personally?

It’s a cheesy answer, but the women in my life. I’m surrounded by incredible, powerhouse women who excel in their own careers and worlds. Witnessing their impact is inspiring and just pushes me to keep challenging myself to keep moving forward, especially in wanting to inspire my own children.

6. What’s the last movie or concert you watched and did you enjoy it?

Thanks to my kids, the last movie I watched was K-Pop Demon Hunters. It’s now on permanent repeat at home… and luckily I don’t mind it.

7. What’s your favourite food?

Without a doubt Italian.

8. What’s your favourite way to relax after work?

Reading. It helps me switch off and stay present with whatever’s in front of me.

9. What’s something you’re passionate about outside of work?

Cooking and baking, it’s my creative outlet.

10. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Keep it simple. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, focus on the 1% improvements each day, because that’s what compounds and creates impact.
