On Friday 14 August, Centuria’s development team joined Newcastle City Council’s Deputy Mayor, Declan Clausen, and award-winning Newcastle builders, Mars Building, to celebrate the topping out of the city’s newest affordable housing project in Mayfield.
The development will be the first of four affordable housing projects Centuria is set to deliver for NSW Central Coast and Newcastle communities, having partnered with Australia’s largest non-government social housing provider, Compass Housing Services.
Centuria is providing development funding as well as its development expertise to undertake the development projects, which are intended to be used to provide services under the NSW Government’s innovative Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF) program.
The topping-out marks the final stages in the construction of apartment building, providing 36 affordable homes including 28 two-bedroom apartments and 8 one-bedroom apartments as well as ground-floor commercial units. Practical competition is due in late January 2021.
Andre Bali, Centuria’s Head of Development, said, “This was a great milestone event, marking the near completion of much needed homes for eligible applicants, including frontline and key workers, in the Newcastle community. We are proud to partner with Compass Housing and Mars Building to deliver homes that will help shape the fabric of the Mayfield neighbourhood.”
By mid-2021, Centuria will deliver four affordable housing developments, providing 190 homes, worth a collective c.$74m.
