709 Port Augusta Hwy, Port Augusta SA

Located 13 km south of Port Augusta in South Australia, Sundrop Farms is a world first integration of renewable inputs and greenhouse technology, including a solar energy system and desalination plant. The farm has four self contained greenhouses (5 ha each) a 12.5 ha solar energy system and a 1ML desalination plant.

Sundrop is the majority provider of up to 90% of Coles supermarkets’ national truss tomato supply. The four greenhouses have capacity to produce over 17,000 tonnes p.a. of tomatoes (or C.4,700 trays of tomatoes per day).

The site receives up to 30% more light than other greenhouses around Australia providing a natural competitive advantage on high value periods of truss production and an unlimited source of seawater from the Spencer Gulf. The region has relatively low humidity, which is more suited to growing tomatoes.
